Prof. Dr. Phoebe Koundouri

Professor Dr. Phoebe Koundouri is a world-renowned pioneer of human-centric, interdisciplinary systems for the sustainable interaction between nature, society, and economy. A University of Cambridge MPhil and PhD, she has held academic positions at the University of Cambridge, UCL, LSE, the University of Reading, and the Technical University of Denmark. Now she is an Economics and Econometrics Professor at the Athens University of Economics and Business and Visiting Professor at the University of Cambridge. 

She is the founder of the Alliance of Excellence for Research and Innovation on Aeiphoria (involving 200 researchers), and she is included in the Stanford University list of the top 2% of world scientists (19 books, 650 published papers, 100 projects, 120 countries).

She is the President Past of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE), Chair of the World Council of Environmental Resource Economists Association, Chair of the SDSN Global Climate Hub, and Co-chair of SDSN Europe (900 universities). She is an advisor to many multilateral institutions, including the UN, G20, World Bank, European Commission, EIB, EBRD, OECD, and WHO.

Her scientific honors include the prestigious European Research Council ERC Synergy Grant and, Academy of Athens Award for Best Scientist. She is Fellow of Academia Europae, World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS), European Academy of Sciences and Arts, Academy of Engineering and Technology of the Developing World; InterAcademy Partnership (IAP); EAERE; European Forest Institute, and member of the Lancet COVID-19 Commission and Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences. She is an Ambassador for the ERC and a member of the Nominating Committee for the Nobel Prize in Economics.
